How do bacteria make complex decisions?
Though they might seem like simple organisms, bacteria must respond to their environments and make complex decisions. They encounter cues such as temperature, nutrient availability, light, and signals from nearby organisms that they must react to within appropriate timescales. We are investigating the protein signaling systems that result in responses such as chemotaxis, virulence, symbiosis, and life-cycle progression. |
