Welcome to the Childers Lab! Our lab applies synthetic biology, chemical biology, mechanistic biochemistry and microbiology to consider the role of phase separation as a compartmentalization strategy in bacteria, biomolecular condensates as reaction crucible in the origins of life and the design of intelligent nanomaterials. In addition, we develop synthetic biology tools and biosensors to study the role of bacterial signaling proteins in microbial development and develop them as bio containment tools for engineered microbes. See our infographics on phase separation as a compartmentalization strategy in bacteria and synthetic biology tools in bacteria, and meet some of our lab's successful recent Ph.D. alumni.
